Anything But This Poem by Robbie Squires

Anything But This

The lights they shine bright
A piercing bright white
Everything else is so lit up by its essence
What would we do without its presence
The floor reflects a dull cream
Living without you is harder than it seems
The clock reads 1: 20
To finish this, time I have plenty
These chalkboards are anything but clean
Beneath that dust is a faded shade of green
The streets were paved with a pale black
From here on there is no going back
The eyes withered and its arms drew red
The only thing left is its now empty head
And we were afraid to touch it
Seeing that it looked mean
We wanted to know what it felt like
And see what has never been seen
The sweat oozed from its lifeless skin
Like a mob that has just busted in
Talking is just like rocking a boat
You sway too much and youll never stay afloat
A yellow light beams from the showcase
Coming at me as if it were a race
The empty street lamp flickers on and off
There is nobody around to see it
So does it exist, is it relevant
Raining dark gloomy water falls from the sky
Making me wonder who what how are they going to cry
An interesting concept just popped into my head
What if all suddenly we all were then dead
Or missing or gone or whatever it is
What would happen to this world we created
Enough about that, its kind of depressing
Have you ever noticed that music is everything
The taps of your fingers the stomp of your feet
Music is everything because everything has a beat
Music is love and love is good
That the way it is now
And the way it always should
