As I Remember Poem by Joyce Hemsley

I returned to the scene
with a breaking heart,
the scene where
our love fell apart.

Snowflakes covered the meadow
but the sun shone down from the blue
the river still flowed beneath the bridge
where I first fell in love with you.

Holly was ready for Christmas
with berries of shiny red hue.
I noticed the pathway on Mountain Ridge
where I picked bonny heather with you.

A sharp winter breeze flew around me
similar to the chill I once knew.
I recalled how romance had ended
when we cried together, we two.

I left the scene
with a broken heart
