Autism Conquered Poem by PADMINI DUTTA SHARMA

Autism Conquered

©Autistic womanhood

Why should a woman be treated
Like an object of passion & feasted?
Why should she keep quite
And not fight back with all her might?

God has created her as a divine object
To be admired and loved
And not be treated like a subject.

Amylin was an autistic child
That robbed her parents of their pride
(Or so they declared to everyone)
They cursed and hated her very existence
She was locked up as if in penance.

When she was barely seven
Her uncle fondled with her feminine
Her complaint was jeered at, ignored
As a last ditch the watchman did the utmost.

Her teacher took her near a corner
Molested her behind the burner
Her father’s friend penetrated her that night
Everybody thought she had performed her duty right.

Her father was going through debts and all
This man thought it wise to take a call
While she bled and cried in pain
Her mental and physical anguish was considered insane
A woman like her they thought
Must be of some use of some sort.

They had a new neighbor from Athens
Roger was charmed by her purity & innocence
Amylin’s mother tried her best
So that he would woo
Her beautiful daughters in her lieu

Such is the laugh destiny laughed one day
Roger, the astronaut married her to everyone’s dismay
As she kissed goodbye to her family
She knew that in spite of all her happiness
Her pain and aches would travel with her agelessly.
