Autumn Song Poem by Diana Rosser

Autumn Song

Summer's camouflage begins peeling back
Out of the blue fall melancholy notes
In unsound fields sunflower heads hang black

Shaken clothes over bodies drape and slack
While duals are fought between feisty throats
Summer's camouflage begins peeling back

Fallen battered windows splinter and crack
Exchange of fire over the airways floats
in unsound fields, sunflower heads hang black

Fast flight, through cover, avoiding attack
diving down on the ground pressing for votes
Summer's camouflage begins peeling back

Playing hide and seek machines on the track
drown out the trade in rhetorical quotes
In unsound fields sunflower heads hang back

Bodies in trenches have no time to pack
Provincial songs are sung in winter coats
Summer's camouflage begins peeling back
in unsound fields, sunflower heads hang black
