Awaiting The Sun Poem by Elton Dean

Awaiting The Sun

Tonight the sea is calm,
But the timbers of my boat still creak.
The sails fly flat as the wind has left me,
And the moon is held hostage by the clouds.

Time signals an eternity,
The darkness of night calls the demons.
I can hear them coming,
And I just sit and wait.

I wait for the sun,
To feel its freshness upon my skin.
The glory of light to cast the demons back to the depths,
Let the winds cast me ashore.

On the land I will walk.
On the land I will find my home.
On the land I will live my dreams and sing.
On the land I will love and die happy.

Until that day I wait in the darkness,
With the demons now calling my name.
The boat still creaks as the sea sits restless beneath me,
And the wind that will send me ashore has not returned.
