Backwards Poem by Butterflies In My Belly Forever

Backwards

Why is she called a butterfly?
Why was her name given Vanessa?
Everything was because that was the way it was supposed to be,
Lean in closer and listen to me.
Everything she's done has been backwards.
Oh yes dear friend, tis true.
I now understand it, few hardly do.
See, she saw things that not many people have seen,
Thought it was the way of life,
So she learned to be mean.
All the things that you can think in the darkest corners of her mind,
Where there waiting at every corner for her to find.

Other people were going along,
Day by day right where they belonged.
Going to school, work then home, enjoying the lives they know.
So she walks around different from the rest,
Thinking life was supposed to be angry and violent and a few other things I won't say.
Then she started to see that she didn't belong,
She was different...she was wrong.
All that had been taught her was not supposed to be..
She couldn't function in society.

So she wrapped herself up tightly in a cocoon.
Isolated in her own little womb.
She began to transform into something to behold,
Something that destiny knew would unfold.
She did things backwards. Grew up too fast.
Still does I hear, and her wings are made of glass.
