Balance Poem by Sucheta Sarwan

Balance

I promised myself to protect my heart from people like you,
I devoted myself to everything my head could think of,
But then you came along, unexpectantly.
And in my ignorance,
My heart fought it's way through and went where it thought it belonged,
With you.
Just like two parallel lines intersect each other,
Our lives walked down the same path,
Whispering sweet nothings to each other,
And just like parallel lines are supposed to be,
Our lives diverged into different paths.
What I forgot over the few moments I did have you in my life is that,
How the universe works, it maintains a balance.
Sadly, you still have my heart, and my mind finds comfort in thinking you're still around.
My mind wanders across the sweet nothings you whispered, the things we expereinced together,
It finds comfort in the fact that you're still around.
Unfortunately that's not true.
I remember you made me laugh, the time I came to tell you our lives had taken different paths,
I thought you were there with me, still wanting to share the same path,
I desperately wanted that, until you proved otherwise.
I might have pointed out to the diversion that occured in our lives, but you were the one who brought it,
And you still have my heart,
And I want it back, it does not belong to you.
I want everything I gave you back, because it doesnt belong to you,
And I want the tiny portions of myself that you took away from me,
Because it doesnt belong to you,
The universe will balance everything again,
But I hope you have someone to love you back,
And I hope she is tender and kind to you,
I hope she doesnt play with your heart and crushes it,
Like you did mine.
Although,
The universe will restore the balance, my love.
