Battle Flag Poem by Ima Ryma

Battle Flag

The Confederate battle flag
Was flown during the Civil War,
And lost with a heavy price tag,
And rejoined the U.S. once more.
But the battle for civil rights
Kept that flag flying in protest
By not so civil racist whites,
Who thought secession was for best.
The centuries have come and gone.
Museums put past on display.
But past hatreds still battle on.
Racism just won't go away.

Racist flag flown in battles past.
That flag unflown, but battles last.
