Be As A Sun Through All Your Life Poem by David Tremain

Be As A Sun Through All Your Life

Be as a sun through all you life; then should your prospects gleam
And those you love as stars shall seem
Illumined in the light of all your joys.
Then might you well declare
That you have paced the halls of heaven;
Touched the brightest stars that line the vault of night
And seen the shadows flee before your rays.

Be as a sun, and in the warmth of all your days
The garden that you keep shall bloom,
And flourish, furnished full with laughter,
Flowers of your love, and fruits of friendship.
You shall bring them light, and they to you.
And at the closing of your days shall glory rush
To cloak you at your end. You shall be beautiful,
And all you look on shall a beauty own
That plants shall bow and bend to see your face,
And by your light another's world might seem a better place.

Be as a sun, rise up, and teach the world your kindness
Bring warmth and light to rich and poor alike.
Teach us to be busy, to find hope, and not to fear.
Make light the darkest corners of our earth.
Show us how to climb, that we may join you in the clouds,
And only set when you have seen the face of two horizons.
Teach us how to nurture, how to grow.

Be as a sun, and in the dark, long after silver clouds
Announce your parting bow, we still shall feel
Your touch upon our skin, and still be grateful for your life,
And mourn not for the seasons as they change.
Be as sun through all your life: be beautiful, be bright.
And in your wake the dusk will speak
In voices lifted from the dust
A whisper of your warmth across the night.
