Be The Desert Of Ice Poem by Naveed Akram

Be The Desert Of Ice

Be the grass of this wild desert of ice,
It will search for the lights and darknesses.
With showers of cold righteous fluid,
We submerge ourselves in abundant triumph.
My shadow speaks too late and my soul is
Silent dutifully, like the silent animal of yours.

Sing then the sacred song, offered by the creatures
Of the wind and snow and rain, the officials of nature.
Silent are their trumpets, and loud are their vices,
But quiet is the resonance of the virtue demanded
Of yours, the fate of man is against us all;
For he must discover the rains and laughter of all.

The grass is like the desert, like the lying sun or star,
We feel the heat of a hundred stars, all here in this space.
Our milky way commands respect as it spirals and flickers
Like a scrolling wonder or statue, forgiving us and
Training our senses, fulfilling the nightmare and rights
Of the human, whose touch is ever-present like ice.
