Before I Go Poem by Brian Nyakundi

Before I Go

Before I go,
I will dine and wine with kings,
I will eat from the platter of beggars
I will live in the presence of elite beings
And sit at the table of thieves.

Before I go,
I will throng in the midst of the righteous
I will stand besides the blasphemous
I will mingle with the
priests
I will be singled with the atheists.

Before I go,
I will paint the greatest of palaces
I will write of the lowest of dungeons
I will fantasise of paradise
And envision the eternity of hellish despise.

Before I go
I will be rebuked and praised
I will be jeered and cheered
I will be drenched in heat and cold
Embraced by the young and old.

Before I go
I will cry of both sadness and joy
I will be appreciated like a hero or a toy
I will have been on every high and low
I will have been beyond all, above and below.

Before I go
I will have loved and hated
I will have been betrayed and traded
I will have been lost as a ghost
I will have lied and belied.

But am yet to go
So Don't judge me yet.
You are yet to see my worst or best,
Just wait
For my end with zest
And speak of me to the rest.
For now give me a break
Let me be,
Let me rest.
My time is nigh
And In peace I want to rest.
