Being Strong Poem by Kathleen Cardinal Farnsworth

Being Strong

People say. I am strong…
But I am not….
I dig a hole in my head-
And I hide a lot
Information of facts is given-
For me to sort out
Just way too much to think about
I need a break
To sit and cry
To myself…
I cannot lie
I am needed to be strong
To make a choice…
I am her voice
People say I'm strong
But I am not
Deep inside my thoughts…
I cry a lot.

POET'S NOTES ABOUT THE POEM
I wrote this while my daughter was in hospital ICU with pneumonia. My daughter is severely disabled and I was having a hard time deciding on my daughter having a tracheotomy done. In my head, I saw her getting worse and I had a hard time getting past a hole in her throat. I did end up choosing this procedure and I can't believe how much better she is doing.
