Belong Poem by Richard Phiri

Belong

I belong to the tribe of Judah
The bold and conquerors
I belong to the continent of Africa
My roots trail back to the mfacane
I am chikunda by tribe
I belong to the dinesty of chief mphuka
My ancestors made contact with the Portuguese
My roots are deeper than the waters of Victoria when she falls
I belong to a community that believes in holding hands lest we fall
In a country were it's decoded in our tissue to survive with little ends meet but poverty plots to wipe us clean
I was cut from the same cloth as Martin Luther King
This environment was perfectly designed for me I am its future king
Blessed with melani to signifie I would have to withstand more than just the heat of the Sahara
I belong to the same clan that produced the might Zulu warrior
Made from the same soil as Adam and Eve I believe in working hard until I return to the dust
I belong to a philosophy which states words are shaper than a sword
So with a pen am cutting through many wounds putting us on the edge
I Wana heal many souls when I speak
My words are medicine to your mind I am more than just a therapist
My art is beyond beautiful paintings or sculptures
This is a blue print for the future generation
A calabash where we store our rich heritage and culture
I hope you will all tap in and share the knowledge with your son's, daughters and those coming after.
