Clustered around their T.V. sets
All glued to Geo network
In every European country.
All trying to comprehend
A senseless brutal act
By an assassin.
A life extinguished;
Country robbed of
A leader fighting for democracy,
Children orphaned,
Husband widowed
By a senseless brutal act
By an assassin.

Sad as it is to see anyone killed in this way, I think that describing Benazir Bhutto as 'a leader fighting for democracy' is naive to the extreme. How could an alleged 'democrat' bestow leadership of a party upon her husband via a so-called 'political will'? That's feudalism, not democracy. And let us not forget how some of her critics were murdered or 'disappeared' during her time as prime minister. Her own brother, Murtazi Bhutto, was the victim of such an assasination, shortly after daring to criticise his sister. If such a thing had happened under Masharif's rule (which, of course, it has... many times) we would not dismiss it as mere coincidence. The unfortunate truth is that Bhutto was no more democratic than the despots she sought to replace... when she actually sought to replace them, that is, and wasn't simply negotiating deals with them, which did quite often too.
