Benefaction Under Stress - Poem by douglas scotney

Without pride, not a poet,
a benefactor in all but the charitable sense,
a beggar
can be benefacted respect.

With pride, a poet,
possessing respect of his own,
on becoming a beggar
can be benefacted less.

at least,
seems the rationale
of benefaction under stress.

Poet's Notes about The Poem

'a poet is a beggar with pride': Mulla Do-Piaza.
and a friend's knocked-back pension application.
