Best Friend Poem by Lindsay King

Best Friend

you're so lovely
like an angel fallen
from god's loving grace
you're so needy
i'm suffocating in all this
it's hard to believe
you want anything to do with me
is validation
such a high price to pay
is there some sparkle
within me that
i'm blind to see
or do i just make you
feel better about everything

i silently see
everything i wanna be
in you
laughing at me

you wanna be my best friend
you wanna be my enemy
you wanna be my breakdown
you wanna be my everything
you're all the things i wanna be
and all the things i'll never need
i'll never trust and lie again
you wanna be my best friend

you say you've been hurt
and lied to by the best
you couldn't do it again
well i've been stabbed
and forgotten
i know the pain all to well
you know i could never
betray your trust like that
i wish i could say the same
though i know
your intentions are pure
this virus growing within me
telling me i'll never be
i'm haunted by growing jealousy

it's all a lie
but it's better
it'll keep me warm
in the freezing weather

you wanna be my best friend
you wanna be my enemy
you wanna be my breakdown
you wanna be my everything
you're all the things i wanna be
and all the things i'll never need
i'll never trust and lie again
you wanna be my best friend

you wanna be my best friend
you wanna be my enemy
you wanna see me fall down
you wanna cry in ecstasy
i'm all the things that validate
and grows within me a furious hate
i'll never believe all the things i'm told
lying alone as i grow old
