Big Enough To Hold The Sea Poem by Leslie Alexis

Big Enough To Hold The Sea

If the plugs of the ocean were pulled
The waters would quickly congregate
Into the earth until it is full,
Then the rest would have some unknown fate.

It might do like a puddle and dry
Within a day or two… maybe three,
Then along the coast would be fish fry
And vultures and vermin would spree

Until they die with the rest of earth;
Or it might refill and save all life...
If flasks were chosen for volume’s worth
Not one would best the heart of my wife

To hold the sea and allow rebirth.
As the plug is made to heal again,
She will present enough that the dirt
Will never dry and life would not end.

Life and all life's joys thereof
remain, till sea could manage its own;
I know because she did this with love
And kept my heart from turning stone.
