Bittersweet Poem by Orlando Belo

Bittersweet

I've known you for such a long time,
and yet I don't know you at all.
When I think you're about to open up,
you stop and shut the door.

I rarely see your deepest emotions,
and it's a part of you I miss.
The suggestion of a tear in times of sadness,
or the look of love when we've kissed.

I need that feeling of warmth and togetherness,
the sharing of our innermost caring thoughts.
Times when we can be happy or sad together,
and feel our love leaves nothing to be sought.

Without these innermost personal feelings,
I feel that our relationship is incomplete.
If you cannot reciprocate my love for you
then we must end what is bittersweet.
