The last black-n-white TV
died today.
Lucy, Andy, Gilligan
and Jack Benny fade away -
Take the antenna
and rabbit-ears down.
Say a few words
and bury them in the ground -
This crap
on television now,
I will never understand
anyhow -
I'm a dinosaur, an anachronism, an old-soul
born far too late.
Like black-n-white movies
I'm out of date -
...But, it'll all be ok
in the end.
See, I've got a DVD player, and reruns
I can watch again and again.
Long live Lucy, Andy,
Jack and Gilligan!
A man after my own heart. I definitely hear you my friend. You, Hank Jr. And I. Dinosaurs. If possible get METV out Of Chicago. wonderful stuff that you mentioned. And no crap.
I agree. The shows on the old black-and-white were just better. (and the reverberating clackety-clack of changing the channel was reassuring, in some manner not easy to explain even now) . Now I am allergic to the new shows, I am an anachronism, as you said yourself to be.. And now when I learn there was an actually worthwhile show to watch once again, it is already many years in the past and unavailable to me, here in the stone age, with no cable or satellite..the tv looks better blank nowdays!
Oh, Smoky, I loved this here poem leaving me smiling! It also made me think of my dad, who had his t.v. always on, and watching the re-runs of The Honeymooners, and in his DVD player, the old time movies too...! This was really a memory recalled for me in this poem. Thanks! Loved it!
Certainly is a load of rubbish on the TV these days - better to read a book methinks, or listen to Beethoven. Long time since I owned a black and white one though. Novel write.
This poem has not been translated into any other language yet.
I would like to translate this poem
You are so right. You, Hank jr., and I. Dinosaurs. If you can get METV out Of Chicago, do it Smoky. All the good stuff you mentioned, and absolutely no crap.
