Blessing Or Reprimand? Poem by Michael P. Johnson

Blessing Or Reprimand?

Far better than a kiss from God
Is oft a scolding word
To some this might sound rather odd
To others quite absurd

Mum’s kiss goodnight, when tucked in bed
So oft we quick forget
But through dad’s clout we fear and dread
And learn or soon regret!

The Lord may chasten, in His love
So man should mend his ways
God brings us down to raise above
In Christ to live our days

Never refuse the love of God
Nor learn when found at fault
For God will bless He’ll use the rod
Till each is worth their salt

Each sin may hurt God’s truth to see
To learn, we oft must feel
Salvation’s rod can set us free
For Christ to set His seal

Our deeds are always in God’s sight
Each thought He can discern
Through Christ we learn to do what’s right
Who don’t must fear to burn

He may sound harsh yet God is just
He’s righteous through and through
His judgement we can always trust
To give us all we’re due

God’s blessing, or His reprimand?
When offered which is best?
Down here I’d rather feel His hand
In Heaven to be blessed.
