Blueness Poem by Ann Beard

Blueness

Rating: 5.0

His blueness took my breath away
instilled an upsurge of well-being.
neighbours paused, they had to watch
The day a budgie came sightseeing.

The silvereyes seemed unperturbed,
Some thirteen sparrows perched above
The stranger warmly welcomed by
one, softly cooing spotted dove.

The backyard birds a calming scene
are quick to scatter, rise as one.
With wings that own and sweep the sky
of strands of daylight, finely spun.

They found him on the lawn next door
as close to death as life allows
and while the cat watched guiltily
Our blue delight refused to rouse.

My lawn still writhes with sparrows
wren and goldfinch colours blend
but none have quite the blueness
Of our freedom loving budgie friend.

That's wonderful. You have a real way of describing the bird, I really wasn't sure just what you meant for a moment.
