Boots New To Want Poem by Lawrence S. Pertillar

Boots New To Want

I have lived to share,
A wealth of unique...
And unexpected,
Experiences quite different.
None of which to wish.
Or imagine them to get.
With those who were rich.
Yet had friends who were poor.
Showing to give respect.
Done to do more and nothing less,
Between them to expect.
What a lesson to learn,
I will not forget.

I have been up and down.
And around long enough,
To admit and face my own mistakes.
Never once to accuse,
Or blame anyone else.
For a taking a wrong direction.
With this done to choose.
Refusing advice or opinions some made.
I was much younger, dumber.
Pretending to be wise.

That 'wisdom' to pretend it,
Had me hit the bottom.
Caring less if there I stayed.
Remaining to feel,
Both self pity and brave.
You know,
A hero of my own delusions.

Then one day,
As I was looking up...
From that bottom where I found myself.
Sitting on the grass,
Quietly in a park.
Admiring the unity ants seem to have.
It dawned on me,
How much I was in need...
Of a new pair of boots.
I wanted.
That bad to prioritize the wish.

And that was all it took,
For me to begin...
Polishing up my act.
To realize my tears to cry,
Had been too dramatized.
For no one else to feel or see,
But me!

Yep!
That's all it took.
Boots new to want!
Who knew,
I would put myself through...
All of 'that'.
To get up off my butt,
Just for new boots to want.
God works,
Mysteriously.
And...
In the most unexplainable ways!
