Break - Time Poem by Barry Van Allen

Break - Time

The past, so long ago,
still feels a lot like yesterday,
it never seemed to leave at all,
it wasn't even on sabbatical.

The ' before ' was nothing more,
than a break in consequences,
a minor glitch within the sequence,
when we were given choices.

We demand our right to chose though,
and to break it if we must,
and then to build it back and break it down again!

If there is a wall somewhere,
and folks are left to choose,
most likely, they will run headlong right at it,
... knowing they will lose,
... and somehow feel gratified,
... because, they got to chose.

History should show us,
how to break the trend,
but, blindly we pursue false truths,
as do every crop of youths,
NOT quite - - - to the end!

The elder generations,
that know of ' give and take ',
beseech the ones in charge now,
' Please, give us a break ! '

The past, so long ago,
still feels a lot like yesterday,
somehow, so familiar now,
in a new and different age.
