Broken

That was the day.
Oh! So paainful, so long!
I was without any ray
With you to go for long.

That was the day.
You had left me alone.
For me there was no way.
My heart had said, 'she is gone'.

This is the day today.
Hope is elusive, dream a bubble.
With my cleft heart i lay
Breathing under the rubble.

poet Robert Browning

After
by Robert Browning

Take the cloak from his face, and at first
Let the corpse do its worst!

How he lies in his rights of a man!
Death has done all death can.
