Broken Namibian Child's Dream Poem by Benson Buiswalelo

Broken Namibian Child's Dream

Rating: 5.0

In the days of my childhood
The elders told me stories
Stories of our country
How we fought for freedom
So we all can feel at home
In the land of the brave

As I grew older
They introduced me to vision 2030
They made me a believer
That the future was bright
I always thought I'd pass down that dream
To the generations after mine

Has anyone been watching the news lately
The land of the brave
The place where our children must feel safe
Has now become a danger to them
Young "kids" raped and murdered at random
Young boys and girls  committing suicide
Because life is too hard to handle

Ever since we become independent
It's like we're colonised by our own people
Corruption running through our government
And it spreads through the streets
I'm grateful to our leaders who stay true to us
And to our good citizens who still believe
That our lost nation can still be found
But it does not matter
Whose in the wrong or right
We all need to right this wrongs

I fear that our home may not be safe
For our kids and their kids' kids
Cause they are the real victims
Victims of what we plant today
But the change can start today
With you and I
A candle may not bring light to the whole world
But the sun is only one star

Powerful how one could see and have courage to tell his great visions of his corrupt country.

Life can be hard, we just have to live it the best we can, and watch out for others the best we can. Great poem.
