Broken People Poem by Shalom Freedman

Broken People

Broken people
Come in all forms and functions
Some cannot see
Some cannot walk
Some cannot hear
Some cannot move at all

A leg goes one way
Another cannot follow
This twists there
And that twists there
A mouth opens
And nothing comes out
Except a single syllable
Said over and over

Everyone becomes broken
If they live long enough
I am already partly broken too
And soon the terrible surprise
May come
Broken me broken world
Broken people everywhere

Broken physically is not deleterious to the mind. What about Stephen Hawking? 10
