Brussels - Thy Grief, Thy Anguish, I Share! Poem by Bernedita Rosinha Pinto

Brussels - Thy Grief, Thy Anguish, I Share!

Rating: 5.0

Many feet kept walking, rushing
to those terminals
to catch planes and trains
to reach their homes
to reach their towns, their cities
or to reach to those waiting hearts of love;
but not for once they hoped
to travel to a destination
from where they would never return;
and just before they could
begin or end their journey
they had to stop and surrender
to an unusual fate called death
as in just one explosion
children got separated
from the arms of parents,
brothers and sisters got separated
from each other;
sons and daughters got separated
from mothers and fathers,
lovers and spouses got separated
from one another;
some died, some wounded
though they had never visualized
gruesome would be their day
when they woke up that morning
they never thought
they would be gone
as their grandeur of life
their greatness of time
had compromised to rage
rage of someone
who was seeking vengeance;
and as they were targeted
they were tossed undeservingly
into torture and tormentation
without any thoughts of justice
without any ropes of relevance;
silently, innocently they surrendered
to those vibes of nemesis;
O' God who offers the glory of heaven,
while on earth how can torture and agony
be the retribution of the innocents?
O' men, where is the grace of love
which binds humanity
and still destroys happiness
without decree or necessity?

POET'S NOTES ABOUT THE POEM
Greatest admiration to a beautiful country like Belgium. The loss of lives and peace is a sadness I can only express through my poetry. May God give courage to every family who is in pain or aggrieved.
