But Poem by Valentina Burgeson

But

I am a blue rose.
Rare and twice as deadly as a plain red one.
When I prick you with my sharp thorns,
the feeling will be a nice one.
Only until I wish it will you feel the
painful impact of loving me.
I will grow poisonous after I grow addictive.
And one day you will have to put me down.
But only until I tell you to let me go.
Only until I force you to
will you allow me to leave.
But
Part of me,
one day all of me,
will not want you to leave.
But I know deep down in my soul
that my poison is not good for you.
And I care too much about you
to keep you with me.
You might not see it but I do.
You will perish if you stay.
But if you do decide to
still love me
then maybe one day
I’ll change.
But right now
I will not let you stay.
