By The Millstreet Road To Rathmore

Far north of this southern Country far inland from the Atlantic shore
The moon tonight is shining on the roadway to Rathmore
And in Donal Hickey's Inch Field the hunting vixen cry
Her fast growing cubs are hungry in their den somewhere nearby.

Under the Townhill bridge at Millstreet on the road to Rathmore Town
The old Finnow is gurgling in the moonlight babbling down
Through Inchaleigh and Claraghatlea by ditch and by hedgerow
On to the great Blackwater forever it does flow.

The harsh scream of the barn owl a bird of daylight shy
Above a field in Claraghatlea is echoing to the sky
I first grew to love Nature a love I still enjoy
By the Millstreet road to Rathmore when I was a young boy.

The past has gone forever though nostalgia can give rise to tears
Good memories of what once was live on in us for years
Our happy Childhood days in Johnny Hickey's grove where we played hide and seek
Such memories last a lifetime they do not fade in a week.

By the Millstreet road to Rathmore in view of Clara Hill
The moon tonight is shining on the little Glasheen Rill
And the cool and freshening winds of March blow in the northern sky
Far north of this great Country even as the crow does fly.
