Cage Poem by Gangadharan nair Pulingat..

Cage

In a tour destination of an old palace
I saw different things of the past
The tools and equipment the ruler used
For punishment of the guilty of the time
That I most frightened in my thoughts after
Was to the sight of an iron cage in body shape
Used for killing the guilty as the traitor
In live a human being put into the cage
His hands were put both to the sides
Head in a prescribed cage for it
The body and legs just like a man standing
The guide described the mode of punishment
After putting the man in to the cage
It was exhibited in a tree top in public
To make the public to see the plight
Not to repeat or question the king or kingdom
How the cruelty of punishment in old times
That was in my mind as a frightening dream
Things have changed, also trials and punishments
To the extent of maximum lenient and justice
Where modern rules stipulates fair trial
Love of human being is supreme and unquestionable
Justice to all through fair trials
The world is changed from the past to the present
As long as crimes, there will be jails
As long as humans there will be errors
Not to forget of the punishment there we wait
Until our errors are completely vanished
A perfect world order that we have to make
Where love and love only must prevail.

The type of punishments back in the days was very cruel and inhumane. They were not tried in a court of law as it is in these days and times. Nevertheless the crime did not go unpunished. Very inspiring.

Beautiful poem. Human makes error and punishment wait for them. Though it was cruel punishment in olden times. But today people may escape punishment and innocent may be punished instead.. Loved reading it.
