Cast Aside Poem by David Thomas

Cast Aside

Left open was my door for you
to enter my soul unburdened
by the heavy damage of the storms of my past
Into my soul did your heart come
as mine trespassed into yours,
I thought you had opened your door back up
just before you forced me from your heart
and from your mind,
but now I realize
that you never shut the door
and you only allowed me an ant's foothold
in the cavern that is your soul,
why do you do this to yourself?
Why torture what little remains in that damaged
abandoned cave?
I was a shining light in a room of darkness
and you were the darkness
in my world filled with blinding lights,
why couldn't you see
that we were plain just meant to be?
