Casualties Poem by Melissa Nikolova

Casualties

Humanity is a string of lights,
All so interwoven,
Such bright little dots of illumination,
Collectively shining out into the world.

Then,
Extinguished.
A light among lights gone out.
Among billions,
Who’s going to notice the one light gone,
Other than the ones surrounding it?

It makes me think of those pictures of earth taken from space

This poem makes me think of those maps they have where it marks all the electrical points at night...it's ponderous and sad, but in a higher-intellect sort of way. Four and a half gold stars for you Summer! !
