Chained Freedom Poem by Sindiswa Nobuntu Ndamane

Chained Freedom

Rating: 5.0

Let me sing a song of the freedom I deserve
The one that came from blood flooding the streets
That made heroes and sheroes leave their families
To hold guns in the bushes
Without knowledge of whether they'll see freedom
They were caught, kicked, held captive
All for me and my big dreams
My dreams which will sustain my dignity
That would conquer the foundation of the nation
That would define the true African essence
The dreams that suited our black and white people
Dreams that would not turn to nightmares
Not even day dreams, but the ones with vision
To build for us and not the white birds
But look at my freedom now
It has become to free to be freedom
It has democratise even the lusty instincts
It has demolished the pride of Africans
It has turned me white inside and black outside
Surely it has insulted my fore fathers
And took away my badge of Africanism
It has lied to my face
Deceived my dreams
Destroyed the opportunity of respect
Made conflict arise
Created monsters amongst the youth
Generated greedy in our leaders
And less care about integrity
It has made me wish to wonder
If the white birds continued
To oppress us
Maybe life would be better,
I would rather surrender my freedom
For the better consciousness of my people,
This is not the freedom I deserved.
