Change Poem by Richard Stopps

Change

Tween the waters of the Speed and Eramosa
Lies Guelph (one romantic town)
Dominated by the Tower of 'Our Lady'
And the University's 'Cap n Gown'!

As the waters flow and wander
Toward, the mighty Grand
So the ebb & tide of human pride
Is challenged in that land!

Housing springs on croplands
And the old stone houses last
But the rivers roll a longer time
Til they find a pastoral past!

The farm fields that had ringed her
Like collars of finest lace
Have yielded to suburban houses
And a newer municipal 'face'.

Her heritage and history will hold her
Steady, in any modern storm
While the Speed and Eramosa whisper
Of times learned and forelorn?
