Changing The Subject Poem by Lawrence S. Pertillar

Changing The Subject

You are uncaring and thoughtless.
Selfish and unconcerned.
With no regard for the feelings of others.
To at least pretend an empathy to extend it.
Or any hint of guilt from you to express,
Kept hidden inside of you that is deeply felt.
Burning with a yearning to confess.

"Hmmm.
And all this time I thought,
My activities had gone ignored.
Tell me...
Did you begin to notice this before or after,
My time given to others no one refused.
Although rumored to be said,
All I wanted was attention to get.
With a doing to brag about,
What I did to do instead."

That was 'after'.
And you know this.

"After?
How ungrateful can I be?
To turn my back,
On being used like that.
Huh? "

There you go.
Changing the subject.
To include the facts.
