Chasing Chances Poem by Cynthia Aluning

Chasing Chances

Gazing life anew to weave a dream
Putting back the puzzle piece by piece
Rising from a fall high-spiritedly
The will to move on is all I think

Weak was I in this game called love
Always defeated by the call of this heart
Now locked up in all corners of my mind
This foolish heart, never to control again

Oh God! give my heart a break
Already bruised in black and gray
For the nth time, will I do swear
I hope not to pass this way again

Sober was I to regain my peace
Fate once again dares another scheme
Never thought would I compose another hymn
For this another man dictated by destiny

In sweetest serenade, he sings me my verses
And bows his head to make it to the dance
Can he break my stiffened promised stance
From deepest slumber, knocking on a heart of stone?

Can I follow the beating of my heart?
As we sway our bodies to the beating of the drums?
Dancing on the floor with the man of the night
Chasing chances to give love another glance
