Chemical Overdose Poem by Paula Glynn

I need that magic poison,
Like a junkie needs a shot,
I am all there is:
An unending addiction to get to the top,
For my goals are to reach new heights,
Without a chemical overdose,
I don't need those drugs anymore than you,
So it does not matter to me what you say or do:
I know my own mind,
You are not one of my kind,
So don't deceive me with your lies,
Because this time you won't catch me by surprise.
I am not fooled by your mask,
I don't feel fear of you,
I don't need to run away:
You do,
Because it is me that is top dog,
And I am not some junkie pusher,
It is you that has done the crime,
And for that only you will do the time,
So don't come crying to me when you're caught,
Because I'll forget you without a second thought.
