Chicago Teddy Bear Poem by Kathlene Ann

Chicago Teddy Bear

Pretend that I'm this teddy bear,
And you're that loose thread hanging there.
Clearly you held me together before,
But you're barely part of me any more.
Since the knot was never tied,
You hang, near useless, from my side.

Soft cloudy stuffing bleeds from my neck.
My fuzzy bear-claws cling to you yet.
They try to keep our lives entwined.
They grasp at you so you won't unwind.

My head's about to fall clean off,
But you haven't even realized how lonely I am and useless you are.

Fu**ing brainless piece of string!
Why won't you piece me together again?
It's your job to notice all my pain
And hold me together as best you can.
But it seems to me the shirt on this teddy
(Which was once a gift from you to me)
Is one big lie.
'All I care about is-'
Hah! Love...
