In the past in Nigeria
Christmas was exciting
Gay and merry
Finer than a cherry
Not so anymore today
Christmas is dry this year
There is no money to spend
No one even wants to lend
Chickens are no longer afraid
Of the sharp blade
No one will buy them still
Not anyone will them kill
We eat yesterday's meals
Instead of the new rice
The shops are full
And the traders cannot us pull
