Christmas Memory Poem by Jeff Stoddart

Christmas Memory

Rating: 4.0

Life seemed so much easier then, in 1963
And looking back in memory, makes it easier to see
The simple pleasures longed for now,
Which then were given free
Like holding on to dad's warm hands, and sitting on his knee.

At christmas time I think on back, to days of yesteryear
Of party time, and crackers and lots of festive cheer
Aunts, and uncles, cousins too
And hot mince pies, songs, and games
Pianos, carols....panto dames.

Carol singing, trudging out and battling through the snow
Meeting friends and having fun...at minus three below..!
Walking home on Christmas morn
Frozen to the bone.
Waking up at 10.a.m. christmas day at home..!

Why do I feel nostalgic now, 'cos every year I do
And tears fall like christmas snow when memories I renew.
I never, ever will forget
That happy far off land.
When I look into my children's eyes...it's then I understand.
