Can't live with 'em
can't live without 'em
Its cliché, yes I know
can't stop saying it though
Ever wonder how they 'stood the test of time? '
(cliché #2)
Its because they 'ring with such truth, '
(cliché #3)
That so few synonyms can 'hold a candle' to them.
(cliché #4)
But in poetry, it is best to 'march to the beat of our own drum.'
(cliché #5)
And so I say, a plague on all clichés.
But for the time being:
I, 'just can't help myself.'
(cliché #6)

This is a delightful, funny poem. We poets work so hard to avoid relying on clichés! There's nothing wrong with clichés in daily speech, they belong there. But WE expect our imaginations to work harder in our creative writing. But I enjoyed reading your list of clichés one after another - it was momentarily liberating to let down my guard and just wallow in speech which comes so easily. So keep singing like a song bird, and don't forget to stop and smell the roses, and have a nice day!
