Cognitive Dissonance Poem by Jason Bonhomme

Cognitive Dissonance

Rating: 3.8

"Unable or unwanting
to assume
a manly, worldly responsibility
you languish in idle
activity"

So
you want to demolish
church and state
and yet you
receive an allowance
from the guv'
food and clothing
via RCC good works
I am thankful
praise from above

cognitive dissonance
to be back in the world
of form name number
crimson prince
stands in the dock
authority lies hubris
all torn asunder

my back
against the wall
excuses for friends revealed
blood blackening hate
cold rejection irate
purple thistle flowers
lying dead in the field.

POET'S NOTES ABOUT THE POEM
This is the last formed poem that I wrote in October of last year (2017) . I was feeling particularly bitter and bummed about my situation at the time I recall, so I put pen to paper and this just flowed out of me ~ It had a most satisfying and healing effect on my mind at the time as it expressed so eloquently just how resentful I was toward certain institutions and on the personal level, 'friends' who are only bringing you down.

" I am thankful/praise from above" set the tone completely differently to me. You do not sound bitter and bummed, but open, alert and ready to receive.

It’s hard to argue with someone who lies to themself. Nice message.

Poignant rendition of words. A work of an intricate mind. Thanks for sharing Jason.

Poetry not only can heal the mind. It can connect neurons to improve the mind beyond its own recognition. It has been proven that a good diet, proper exercise and using the mind to improve itself is the way to go..
