Cojourner Poem by Tumisang Ramarea

Cojourner

Rating: 5.0

If our paths should collide,
As drunk as the digits of pi,
Let their journey run free.

If fears of the future arise
And pains of the past try,
Let them not scare you or me.

Dear cojourner, walk beside me.
Keep me company for a while.

If we lose track of this step,
Focus on mirages far away,
Let's remember to breathe.

For breath saves an overstep.
There is enough by far today,
Of life if only we dare to live.

Dear cojourner, share with me
The stories of where you've been.

If our paths ought to diverge,
Lead us in different directions,
Carry me as I'll carry you, always

If you must rest, please I urge
You to exile me in your reflections.
I promise to return without delays.

Dear cojourner, where you going?
Perhaps I might help you get there.

But as we journey on now,
Let's hunt and let's gather,
And build tents to spend the night.

Let's write a story worth a bow,
Laugh with me, dance, or rather,
Share the wait until the next light.

Maybe you are going to Ethiopia
And I, by chance, to Abyssinia.

'If fears of the future arise And pains of the past try, Let them not scare you or me.' the danger potential in all long journeys into less travelled lands, this is one of the best poems I have ever read
