Colac's Cliff Young Poem by Francis Duggan

Colac's Cliff Young

From Sydney to Melbourne he jogged to renown
Cliff Young the spud farmer from old Colac Town
Deceased but he lives as Colac's favourite son
The hearts of the Australian Nation he won
Australia's most famous spud farmer became known far and wide
From the potato fields of his home countryside
Fame to him came when he was decades past his prime
Though his name will live on through the centuries of time
As an ageing fellow his praises were sung
When one talks of Colac one's thoughts turn to Cliff Young
The sixty one year old Spud farmer who won the great race
In the history of athletics old Cliff booked his place
Though the mighty spud farmer is in his long rest
He wasn't found to be wanting when put to the test.
