There once was a boy from Tupelo
who knew not where to go,
so at a young age
he hit the stage
singing sweet and low -
Liking what he saw
he recorded a song for his ma,
and there before he was done
he found his place in the Sun
as we all stood amazed, watching with awe -
He twisted and he shook
he had what it took,
his voice powerful like thunder
a delirious spell he put us under
with that style and that look -
He only hung around for awhile
singing his song and flashing his smile,
but to this very day
that smooth voice can still carry us joyfully away
in such peaceful comfort, southern style -
I thought Elvis was the singer but double checked to make sure. It's good to read about someone without the normal trappings; so that you see their life unlit by neon, and thus see them in a brand new light.
Beautiful poem, Pleasant to read. Very true said, smooth voice touches our soul. Thanks for this lovely poem.
Nothing like sweet music to soothe the soul - another fine write Smoky.

Hey, Smoky! I can’t say I’m a big Elvis fan, but for sure he had a smooth voice, for sure he could sing. I remember wishing I had hair like him so the girls would go crazy over me. Glen
