Concepts 11 Poem by Somanathan Iyer

Concepts 11

Filled to half contents in a pot vibrate much more
The contents of a full pot remain still and unperturbed
People with knowledge half acquired make much noises
Those who are well versed appear calm and composed

Unable to hunt an injured cat ignores the rat
Pounces and relish the rat when it moves closer
In the absence of chances people speak of morals
The real character surface only in tempting times

A tiger never goes to graze the grass even if there is no hunt
A bird called Chatak never opts for water other than rain drops
A swan never chooses murky waters other than lakes formed by springs
Men of character never yield to temptations even in distress
