Confession Poem by Lawrence S. Pertillar

Confession

Not until it is openly addressed.
That those who lied to themselves,
And to others.
What they did with intention to do.
To refuse, and excuse to deny.
The ones victimized,
Into moods, indifference...
And attitudes to express.
Will continue to keep a distance.
From others they know,
Lie to do it wherever they go.
With a caring of less,
How big of a mess they have made.
To pretend they did not initiate it.
And continue to place their shame,
Feeling guilt to lay that blame...
At the feet of another.
Be it a spouse.
A house mouse.
A neighbor, friend or relative.
To have their faked innocence perceived,
By a minister or priest.
To have their pre-meditated confession,
Sought to receive and get relief.
From the lies they tell so well.
Even Lucifer in Hell,
Is heard to weep.
Enough to bring steam to the heat.
