Confined Living Poem by Mariam de Haan

Confined Living

Words carefully said
Boundaries slowly laid
Passions made dead
Friendships made instead

We could sleep under stars
In a country full of scars
That you dream of
Like a lover after divorce

We could lose ourselves in the moment
Let go of this foolish lent
Succumb to desire
Turn ashes into fire

We could forget the work
Forget the boredom and the sulk
Pour it all down the drain
Go dance in the rain

We could fly free
Yes, you and me
Just seize the day
Throw all else away

But we don't do we?
The safety bars are too strong
And I don't want it to go wrong
So we don't, at least not me
