Could You Please Hurt Me With Your Comments?

Rating: 5.0

Could you please hurt me with your comments?
Yes thank you.
I would love to receive blisters on my soul.
Why?
Simple. I am a woman and I work;
In the home, in my office and even in my dreams too.
I can cook but I cannot be a good cook because working women can’t be good cooks;
Who says so? My maid says so.
I can be a professor but I can’t be a good researcher because I have three kids;
Who says so? My colleague says so.
I can bear children but I can’t be a good mother because I have a career;
Who says so? My mother-in-law says so.
I can decorate my home but I cant be a home maker because I have my own paycheck;
Who says so? My neighbor says so.
And I love hearing what they say because they make me
Unmake me
Kill me
Tease me
And want me to be alive
And happy
And beautiful
And resourceful
And wonderful
And all for them
Why so? Because there is a carving on my forehead
‘Please comment on me, I love to be criticized and penalized and commented upon’
Because I am a woman and I work and yet
I live.

A different poem from a different angry working woman. Style is aggressive but she speaks the truth.And truth is always bitter. Though a working woman faces so many problems at her working place but her problems are at home. In this nicely written poem she once again confirms where there is woman in trouble, there is another woman creating troubles for her. The irony is this that when a daughter-in-law becomes a mother-in-law she forgets all that and takes her revenge. It's a cycle of our society, but the poetess is an educated lady and I hope when she'll become a mother-in=law, she will not create problems for her daughter-in-law. Best of luck Javaria Farooqui, I wish a a happy and peaceful life to you. Storms that come with enormous speed are settled down quickly. Show a little more patience, Insha Allah, every thing will be all right.

Thanks for reading. And its not about one particular relationship....its about all the comments which we give regardless of the feelings of others. I can easily replace 'mother' with 'mother-in-law'

Judging people on 'face value' is ridiculous, but highly practiced. Women get a worse taste of this 'wonderful' ritual courtesy the stereotypes they are associated with. A strong poem Javaria.. Thanks for sharing...
