Danny's Best Mate Poem by Francis Duggan

Danny's Best Mate

Danny says his female golden retriever Rose is his best mate
Every evening at home she greets him at the gate
Even in the winter when the evenings are cold. wet and dark
With a wagging tail and a welcoming bark

Because she did love another man more than she loved him
His wife Ann she left him And with her took their young son Jim
Five years ago on the last day in May
He does not know where they are living today

You ask Danny about dogs and to you he will say
Your dog is your best friend and as your best friend will stay
Without Rose how sad life for me it would be
Her love and friendship means so much to me

For feeding her and taking her for walks in love and friendship him she repay
Rose waits to welcome Danny home from work every day
When he says life without her so sad for him would be
With him i am sure many would agree.
